Nonviolence Guidelines
The U.S. Bill of Rights asserts that the authority of a government is derived from the consent of the governed, and whenever any form of government becomes destructive, it is the right and duty of the people to alter or abolish it.
Nonviolent Civil Disobedience is an American Tradition and a key element in a working democracy. The strategy of nonviolent has played a significant role in shaping the social environment of today and continues to be a relevant tactic in the fight for social and environmental justice. Some examples of movements that have used nonviolence as a key strategy:
- The Boston Tea Party
- Anti-war movements throughout U.S. history
- The Women's Suffrage Movement
- Abolition of slavery
- The introduction of labor laws and unions.
